Signs Your Raynor Torsion Spring Replacement Is Failing

• A single loud bang from the garage. This is the spring snapping under tension. It’s not a nail gun, it’s not a truck backfiring. If the door now refuses to open and the motor just hums, the spring is gone. Stop pressing the opener button.
• The door opens a foot and stalls. One spring is carrying the whole load and it can’t. The opener is straining against a door that now weighs what it actually weighs: 150 to 250 pounds of steel hanging on one good spring. Every press makes the other spring weaker.
• Visible gap in the spring’s coils. Look up. If you see a two to four inch gap in the middle of the spring where the coil used to be continuous, that spring has already cracked through. It’s not going to last the week.
• Cables hanging loose near the top of the door. When a torsion spring fails, the lift cables lose tension and can jump track or go slack against the roller. That’s not a cable problem. That’s a spring problem showing you its symptoms.
• The door slams down or pulls to one side when closing. One spring is still winding, one isn’t. The door tracks uneven. If you’ve noticed scuffs on the track or the door looking tilted, the spring has been failing for a while.
